Breaking News at Wiawaka
2nd Annual Arts & Reintegration Retreat for Women Veterans
August 9-11, 2010
This retreat is open to any woman who has served our
country in any branch of the military. The retreat will focus on
reintegration issues arising out of military service, provide a safe space to
share experiences, learn from others who have served our country, use the arts
to gain skills to enhance quality of life, sense of self and build a support network
with other women veterans.
We are very fortunate this year to
have funds from several generous donors. These funds allow every woman veteran
participant to attend this retreat at no cost. We are most grateful to our
donors; The Glens Falls Foundation, The Charles R. Wood Foundation, an anonymous
Foundation and the many individual donors.

Lake George Arts Project
presents Gallery Exhibit "Raising the Fleet-an
Art/Science Initiative"
This exhibit will run from August 25 -
September 10, 2009 at the Lake George Old Courthouse Building, 1 Amherst St.
Lake George, NY. The exhibit includes
approximately 20+ pieces of paintings, drawings and photographs taken
of amoebae using an electron microscope. A television screen located near
the entrance of the gallery hall will play a short video clip to introduce and
provide background on the exhibit.
The art/science team has also scheduled a three-hour workshop
Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Wiawaka Holiday House to complement
the art exhibit. Appropriately
entitled “Beyond the Bateaux—An Art/Science Initiative Workshop,” the
instructional program will be taught by visual and teaching artist Chris Moran
with special assistance from cell biologist Dr. Sam Bowser.
Interested
adults are invited to explore, create, collaborate and contribute to this
hands-on workshop that will bring a deeper experience of the art exhibit and of
natural history. Using a variety of
painting and drawing materials the workshop facilitators and attendees will
explore the nature of art/science collaboration through a visual arts
experience. Anyone interested in the
workshop can contact the Lake George Arts Project, 518-668-2616, for more
information and for a registration form.
The workshop is free, but space is limited; registration is absolutely
required.
Exhibit Reception: August 28, 2009 (5-8 pm) at the
Lake George Arts Project Old Courthouse Building, 1 Amherst St. Lake George, NY.
Come meet the artist and other exhibit collaborators.
